The climate

Considering the climate, the region belongs to the inland valleys which are still influenced by the warm and humid air currents coming from the plains. However, regarding the microclimatic situation, the valleys of Sant’ Antonio represent a territory of its own since they are located at a cold exposure. The sudden altitude differences cause an immediate transition from the climatic zones of the bottom of the valley to the climatic zones of the rocky habitats in great heights. The vegetation, which is adapted best to a habitat like this, consists of coniferous plants and deciduous trees which are able to withstand low temperatures. The ground is covered by accumulations of tufts of grass, herbs and bushes which are typical for alpine pastures and rocky slopes.
